Companies which have fully implemented all 14 elements of the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association Safety Program (MHCSP) are eligible to achieve COR™ Certification. To achieve COR™ Certification, a company must successfully pass an external audit conducted by an independent auditor appointed by the MHCSP.
COR™ is endorsed by the Manitoba Labour Workplace Safety and Health Division and the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB). COR™ Certified status is the ultimate distinction verifying companies which have implemented a comprehensive safety program. COR™ Certification is a nationally recognized and portable standard, developed by participating of the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA) of which the MHCSP is a member. Construction companies with a WCB code starting with “4” (industrial, commercial, institutional & residential) may also receive COR™ services from the Construction Safety Association of Manitoba (CSAM). Please follow this link for a listing of CSAM COR™ Certified companies. CSAM and the MHCSP reciprocally recognize the ‘COR™ Certified’ status of companies in each of their respective programs. Don't put yourself at risk. Ask to see a current "Letter of Good Standing’ or COR™ Certificate." Want to know more about COR? Click here! Congratulations to the companies who have achieved the prestigious designation of COR™ Certification in Manitoba from MHCSP. To view the list, click here. |

As warmer weather approaches, that can only mean one thing in Manitoba: construction season is upon us. For the fourth year in a row, a group of community stakeholders are teaming up as safety partners to launch the annual SAFE Roads campaign, aimed at raising awareness of the safety of road construction workers. Initiated by the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association, SAFE Roads was, until 2008, a joint safety effort between six partners: the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation, Manitoba Heavy Construction Association, Manitoba Floodway Authority, Manitoba Hydro and the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB). This year, an additional six partners have joined the safety initiative! To view the SAFE Roads Backgrounder, click here. |

Accelerating Trade & Transportation Investments |

As the federal government considers its 2009 budget, it should be mindful that trade and transportation play important roles in Western Canada and Canada’s economies. Accordingly, accelerated and enhanced investments in trade supporting assets should be a key strategy to minimize further economic regression. Canada West Foundation’s ‘State of the West 2008’ report notes that economic strength within Canada has shifted westward. The West’s share of Canada’s total economic output (35.3%) exceeds its share of the population (30.4%). International trade is an integral aspect of the western economy with the US being the largest trading partner while China and Asia-Pacific countries continue to increase their market share. The increase in foreign trade has boosted economic growth and living standards by allowing the western provinces to expand markets for their goods well beyond what is possible within Canada alone.
