ABOUT THE MHCA

Founded in 1943, The Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) is a non-profit organization advocating the positive relationship between sustainable investment in infrastructure and our quality of life, the economy and the environment.

The Association promotes a safe workplace for industry employees, by providing an expansive safety, health and environment training and education program through its 'Manitoba Heavy Construction Safety Program (MHCSP).'

The Association has established the Manitoba Heavy Construction Training Academy (MHCTA) for the purposes of providing government approved career and vocational training. At present, its mandate focuses on heavy equipment operators but is projected to expand in the near future.

Our membership includes contractors engaged in roadbuilding, sewer & water, excavation, bridge building, the sub trades to contractors and the supply side of industry, including aggregates, petroleum, engineering, heavy equipment, financial and bonding agencies.

Safe Roads Campaign Urges Manitobans To Drive Slowly
Monday, 11 May 2009
Safe Roads 2009

The fourth annual SAFE Roads campaign, a joint initiative aimed at bringing awareness about the safety of workers on Manitoba’s roads, was kicked off today. The campaign targets motorists across the province, asking them to slow down and exercise caution when driving past road construction projects and when sharing the road with emergency workers such as firefighters, paramedics and police officers.

During the busy summer months, there are numerous road construction projects taking place throughout Manitoba on any given day. Add to this the emergency personnel who are also on Manitoba roads and the result is scores of workers on the job in public places, all needing to be kept safe.
